Harry Grant knees in back Phoenix Crossland, on report, match review committee, Knights vs Storm, Round 21

Storm star Harry Grant will be sweating on the match review committee after he was placed on report for putting his knee in the back of Knights opposite Phoenix Crossland.

Grant did a double take of referee Gerard Sutton placing him on report to check that he wasn’t being sent to the sin bin.

The incident in the 26th minute saw Crossland dive to clean up a ball on his goal line and the chasing Grant’s left knee came into contact with the Knights hooker’s back.

“Great work from Crossland to dive on the ball, but he might have got a knock in the back for his trouble,” Warren Smith said on Fox League.

“Fitzgibbon didn’t like it,” Steve Roach added.

“It looks like it might have been knees in the back. I tell you what that will be a penalty and Grant will be on report here.”

Referee Gerard Sutton wasted no time in putting Grant on report for the incident explaining it was a careless action.

“I get that he is falling and all of that, but there is still an element of carelessness,” Sutton said.

However, Smith defended Grant believing the impact could have been much worse if he stepped on Crossland.

“Harry Grant placed on report with Newcastle fans wanting more than that and Crag Bellamy will have the worry beads out wondering what the match review committee will make of that contact,” Smith said.

“Was Harry Grant trying to avoid the contact there?

“If he steps out and puts his left foot where he was going to plant it he was going to step on Phoenix Crossland, so I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt there and say he was trying to avoid the contact, but as a result his knee goes onto the upper back.”

However, Roach believes the carelessness of the action could prove costly for Grant and the Storm.

“The biggest thing is it was careless,” Roach said.

“You would like to think he is not that type of player Harry Grant.”
