A determined chase and terrific put down by newly-resigned Liam Martin has ensured the Panthers will run out winners, as they lead 28-0 over the Sharks after 65 minutes.

Martin’s try was the second of the half after winger Sunia Turuva went over untouched in the 49th minute after a lovely flick pass from Tyron Peachey.

“This is a carve up,” Mick Ennis said on Fox League.

Sharks lock Cameron McInnes has 71 tackles in the 65th minute, with the NRL record of 74 tackles well within reach.

Jarome Luai scored first for the home side and then Isaah Yeo went over for this third try of the season at the halfway mark of the first stanza, taking advantage of a Sharks error.

“It’s a suffocating masterclass by the Penrith halfback. He is kicking them to death,” Michael Ennis said on Fox League.

A Cleary 40/20 gave the Panthers an attacking set with 10 minutes left in the first half, and they capitalised when Brian To’o scored a remarkable try, somehow keeping his foot in touch despite a brave cover tackle by Jesse Ramien.

“He puts the legs onto the lap of Ramien,” Andrew Voss said.

“It’s a great tackle by Ramien on To’o, who is sometimes impossible to stop. Ramien holds him up from going over the sideline,” Ennis said.

Cleary attempted a 48-metre field goal on the stroke of halftime but it fell agonisingly short.

In a double blow for the Sharks, the Panthers score first through Jarome Luai as fullback Will Kennedy leaves the game with a hamstring injury.

We might see a major reshuffle here with the Sharks,” Andrew Voss said.

“They have four forwards on the bench Cronulla, so Jack Williams is on the field and Connor Tracey moves to fullback,” James Hooper reported.

“It looks like Briton Nikora has gone to left centre with Sio Talakai going out to the wing,” Michael Ennis noted.

James Hooper later reported that Kennedy won’t return to the game.
