West Coast Eagles, Adam Simpson sacked, secret board meeting, Justin Langer, photos, chairman, latest

Several West Coast Eagles board members have met for what the club says was an “informal” discussion at chairperson Paul Fitzpatrick’s home, with the club maintaining no decision will be made on coach Adam Simpson until after the season.

The West Australian captured images of several board members, including cricket legend Justin Langer, arriving and departing Fitzpatrick’s home in the space of just over an hour.

It comes as speculation mounts over Simpson’s future, who could have one game left as coach if the board decides to sack him after 10 years at the helm.

“The West Coast Eagles Board met this morning for an informal discussion at the home of Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick,” the club said in a statement.

“The club remains firm on its position that no decisions have been made around the future of any staff members and that none of those key decisions will be made until after the season.

“Our club is focused on celebrating the careers of three champions – Shannon Hurn, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui – at our final match of the season against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.”

Simpson coached his side off the bottom of the ladder on the weekend with a stunning win over the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

He took aim post-match at those who had questioned the side’s desire to win given they were in possession of pick No.1 heading into Sunday’s match.

Discussion surrounding Simpson’s future ramped up last week, with reports the premiership coach was seeking clarity on his future.

It followed a 101-point derby loss to Fremantle – the biggest ever in the rivalry.
