Former Hawthorn sharpshooter Ben Dixon has boldly declared Jed Walter will be “bigger” for Gold Coast than Gary Ablett after the draftee’s AFL debut.

Walter, the third pick of the 2024 AFL Draft and Suns Academy player, showed exciting flashes during the Gold Coast’s loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday in Ballarat despite only recording four disposals with no goals.

The 18-year-old key forward had Fox Footycommentator Dwayne Russell calling for the youngster to be given a new nickname befitting of his potential: “Movie World.”
But Dixon, who continued with the theme park nicknames on TheFirst Crack, went a step further with his prediction of how far Walter will go in his career on the Gold Coast.
“There’s a new Disney Land on the Gold Coast, the name Jed Walter … Walt Disney,” Dixon said.

“He will be the main attraction on the Gold Coast. He’ll be the biggest thing in two years on the Gold Coast. Bigger than Ablett.
“He will have a bigger impact across his career than Ablett has on the Gold Coast. Mark my words.
“He has all the make up and the bones of being an A-plus.”
When asked by fellow First Crack panellist David King on what made Walter such a standout talent despite his limited game time, Dixon rattled off several qualities.
“He’s X-factor, in terms of his work rate, his body work, his positioning, his ability below his knees for a big man,” Dixon said.
“He’s hard, he’s angry, he’s everything you want in a player.”
