Canterbury Bulldogs, Connor Tracey, player swap, Cronulla Sharks, Phil Gould, rugby league news, injury, reaction

The Bulldogs have been dealt a massive blow with the club’s general manager of football Phil Gould revealing new recruit Connor Tracey will be sidelined with injury for two months.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs signed Tracey as part of a player swap with the Sharks on Tuesday, however when that news was released, the utility had sustained an injury at Cronulla training only a day before.

Responding to a X user’s question about when Tracey will start training with the Bulldogs, Gould dropped the injury bombshell, revealing the 27-year-old won’t be seen on the training paddock until mid-January.

The timing couldn’t be more unfortunate for Tracey and the Bulldogs, with the injury occurring in what likely would have been the speedster’s final session with the Sharks on the Monday.

Less than 24 hours later, and the news had been announced that Tracey would be heading to Belmore as a part of a player swap.

The Bulldogs sent promising outside back Dylan Gabrael to the Sharks in the deal. Cronulla also frees up $500,000 in cap space with Tracey’s departure.

Tracey has scored 27 tries in 66 games for the Sharks since his NRL debut in 2019.
