David Klemmer high tackles on Kyle Flanagan, Zac Lomax, on report, Wests Tigers vs St George Illawarra Dragons, Round 6

The Wests Tigers will be sweating on the match review committee after David Klemmer was twice placed on report for ugly high tackles against the Dragons.

Klemmer was firstly placed on report for a high tackle on Dragons playmaker Kyle Flanagan, before catching Zac Lomax high minutes before full-time, but remarkably he stayed on the field.

The first incident halfway through the second half of the Dragons’ 24-6 victory over the Tigers saw Klemmer charge out of the line before collecting Flanagan around the chin with his shoulder.

The commentators felt Klemmer could be looking at a send-off but the referee deemed a penalty sufficient and placed the Tigers enforcer on report.

“Oh! Flanagan has run into Klemmer who put a straight jacket on him, but has collected him a little high,” Andrew Voss said on Fox League.

“Flanagan straight off, he says sin bin… It was big contact. It was absolutely an abrupt halt.”

Michael Ennis believes Klemmer was lucky not to be sin-binned at least.

“Oh boy, he might be in some big trouble here, David Klemmer, if this shoulder’s connected,” Ennis said.

“Is it high up on the bicep rather than the point of the shoulder?” Voss asked.

“Well he comes out of the line looking to make a statement on the much smaller Flanagan and it’s direct contact to the head,” Ennis said.

“Flanagan got straight up, I mean point of the shoulder Flanagan would have been nightie night,” Voss said.

“That’s why they’re going to rule on high bicep. You play judge and jury at home right now in Fox League.

“Oh no, his head rocked straight back into contact. Oh boy, this is a big moment.”

Ennis and voice were astounded that a penalty was deemed sufficient.

“That’s it, it’s on report,” Ennis said.

“Boy he’d have got five weeks in Magic Round a couple of years ago.”

“If Flanagan stays down concussed what happens?” Voss asked.

“So it stays 13 on 13. A one-on-one tackle where a player has been penalised for head contact. Not just a loose arm around the top. Direct forceful contact.

“Forceful is the word. That’s it Michael. All they always say. It is high and forceful. 10 fingers go up. Every time.”

“That’s astounding,” Ennis said.

With six minutes to play Klemmer was placed on report for a second time when he caught Zac Lomax high.

While arguably not as bad as the first shot, Klemmer is looking at a near certain suspension given his track record.
