Dion Prestia return to Queensland, Gold Coast Suns, Ben McKay, Sydney Swans, Essendon Bombers, latest

Amid speculation Dustin Martin could seek a move to Gold Coast to reunite with Damien Hardwick, there’s reportedly another Tiger who could pursue such a switch.

According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, three-time premiership midfielder Dion Prestia has privately discussed the possibility of returning to Queensland, having started his career at the Suns before moving to Richmond at the end of 2016.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Edmund said both Queensland clubs “are aware of” the possibility of the 30-year old wanting to finishing his career up north — a notion denied by Prestia’s management team, Kapital Sports.

Curiously though, Kapital Sports also manage Suns academy young guns Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Jake Roger.

Given the trio will cost a significant amount of draft points — and thus draft capital — it could make it tricky for Gold Coast to have enough currency to land a player such as Prestia, who’s contracted at Punt Road for 2024.

“I don’t know the motivation for the interest, who knows what else is going on there. All I can tell you is that he has told people privately that he’s got some interest,” Edmund said on SEN radio.

“Is that tongue-in-cheek, like his management company suggests? Is it legitimate? Is it just a pipe dream that will never happen?

“It’s certainly been doing the rounds up there (in Queensland) for a while.”

NEW FAVOURITE FOR MCKAY

Sydney has overtaken Essendon as the new favourite for Kangaroos free agent Ben McKay, according to a report in The Age.

It comes after the Swans missed out on West Coast star defender Tom Barrass, who’ll reportedly remain at the club despite speculation otherwise earlier this year.

The cashed-up Bombers were thought to be in the box seat to land McKay, 25, who’s expected to despite Arden Street, however the view from other clubs is that Sydney is now his most likely destination, according to the report.

The report also states the Swans, like Essendon, have met with the key defender.

It’s believed the Swans’ contract offer would be big enough to meet band one requirements for free agency compensation and potentially net North Melbourne the first two picks in the draft.
