U.S. forces hit two targets in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other Iran-affiliated groups, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement. The attacks reflect Washington’s desire to prevent an expansion of the Israel-Gaza war into other parts of the Middle East, and to deter further attacks against U.S. troops in the region that have resulted in 21 American personnel suffering minor injuries this month. The U.N. General Assembly will meet 10 a.m. Friday to discuss a potential temporary halt to the fighting.
