Judiciary Wrap, who is suspended, charges, Toafofoa Sipley tackle on Dom Young, Pre-Season Challenge, Manly Sea Eagles, Zyon Maiu’u, reaction, rugby league news

Two players have so far received suspensions for incidents during Week 1 of the Pre-Season Challenge, headlined by the three-game ban handed down to Manly prop Toafofoa Sipley.

Sipley entered an early guilty plea to a Grade 2 Crusher Tackle on Roosters flyer Dom Young, who was sent to hospital in a neck brace and on a stretcher and will miss the first three rounds of the NRL season.

It means Sipley will miss his team’s historic season opener in Vegas against Souths.

The ugly tackle caused considerable pain to Young, who took some time to get to his feet. He would walk off the field and as a precaution, was taken to hospital after the Roosters’ 36-22 trial win over the Sea Eagles.

Raiders’ Noah Martin, who will likely ply his trade in the lower grades this season, will miss at least one game for a Careless High Tackle.

Martin was sin binned after his shoulder hit the head of Eels forward Luca Moretti.

While no penalty or charge has been handed down yet, Warriors young gun Zyon Maiu’u is sure to spend some time on the sideline after he was sent off during his team’s trial loss to the Tigers.

Maiu’u collected Declan Casey very high with his shoulder, which caused the Tigers outside back to leave the field on a stretcher.

The hit didn’t appear dirty or intentional, rather poor timing, but based on the state of Casey and how bad it looked, Maiu’u is set for at least a 3-4 week suspension.

“Zyon Maiu’u entered the game with an aggressive run, looking to get his team on the front foot. He just overcooked it there,” Corey Parker said on Fox League.

Sharks prop Tom Hazelton ($3000 – Careless High Tackle), Dragons’ Viliami Fifita ($1000-$1500 – Dangerous Contact), Parramatta’s Makahesi Makatoa ($1000-$1500 – Dangerous Contact), Newcastle’s Sebastian Su’A ($1500 – Shoulder Charge) and the Storm’s Jontay-Junior Betham-Misa ($1000 – Crusher Tackle) all copped fines for incidents over the weekend.
