Las Vegas season opener, which teams will go to Vegas in 2025, Penrith Panthers, Melbourne Storm, Warriors, NRL360, news, videos

With the 2024 Las Vegas season opener a raving success, fans and NRL powerbrokers have one big question on their lips — who will feature next season?

The Broncos, Rabbitohs, Roosters and Sea Eagles played in the US showcase on Sunday in front of over 40,000 fans at Allegiant Stadium.

Now, according to The Daily Telegraph’s Brent Read, NRL bosses have already begun planning which teams will travel abroad in 2025.

“One thing they are really concious of is making a decision early, so the clubs that are going next year will have more time, the fans will have more time to plan,” Read said on NRL360.

“They had a meeting on the Sunday after the game to debrief it all and call for expressions of interest for next year. I’d imagine they have a decision within a month on who goes next.”

NRL360 host Braith Anasta posed a big question regarding a potential ‘winner stays on’ system initially posed by Roosters supremo Nick Politis.

He suggested the two winning teams book their spot for the following Vegas season opene with two challengers desperate to knock them off their mantle.

“Do you bring four new teams over and give four new clubs and fans that experience or do you reward the teams like the Roosters and Manly who won?” Anasta asked.

“And keep them there next year and have two challengers, and then the winner stays on.

“Not every fanbase is the same and has the amount of members so it’s a big decision, we need them to turn up.”

The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio revealed two teams who will likely take part in the 2025 Vegas venture, with Read also revealed a smokey club who could get the nod.

“Lets cut to the chase, the two clubs who are in the box seat to go next year are the Panthers due to their stadium redevelopment and the Melbourne Storm,” Riccio said.

“The Storm were privately disappointed at how close they went to going this year, they narrowly missed out.”

“You’d think Penrith for sure, big club, their stadium is out of action. I’d have thought Melbourne might go next year,” Read said.

“The Warriors are then the other club that everyone’s talking about.”
