HOLLANDS, D’AMBROSIO MOVES NEXT WEEK

Massimo D’Ambrosio’s request to move to Hawthorn is likely to be granted next week, while talks over a possible Elijah Hollands-Carlton trade will ramp up over the weekend.

D’Ambrosio is keen to join Hawthorn after falling out of favour under Brad Scott at Essendon this year.

But the Hawks have several other deals to contend with, including luring Mabior Chol from Gold Coast and striking the right trade for outgoing duo Tyler Brockman (West Coast) and Jacob Koschitzke (Richmond).

D’Ambrosio’s manager, Julian Petracca of Hemisphere Management Group, indicated a move to the Hawks would most likely go down next week, but added talks were “progressing well with Essendon and Hawthorn”.

“I don’t think anything will happen over the next couple of days, it’s probably more of a Tuesday or Wednesday job,” Petracca told AFL Trade Radio.

“I’ll leave it up to Mark McKenzie and Adrian Dodoro to sort out, but I’m pretty confident it will get done.”

Meanwhile, Hollands’ manager David Trotter indicated Carlton and Gold Coast would discuss a possible trade over the weekend, with the Blues also trying to strike a deal with St Kilda over Paddy Dow.

But Trotter, of Hemisphere Management Group, stressed Hollands wasn’t “looking around and trying to shop around and see what’s out there”.

“He’ll be at one of the two clubs next year,” Trotter told AFL Trade Radio.

“We have spoken to Carlton, spoken to Gold Coast, they’ve agreed to have a chat … They’ll sit down over the weekend and see where it sits.

“Elijah hasn’t come out and said: ‘Hey, 100 per cent, that’s where I’m going.’ It’ll be a mutual decision of whether there’s something there that Gold Coast would look at and whether Elijah wants to take the opportunity.

“I think it’s a reasonable chance, but I’ll have more information over the next couple of days.”

SAINTS’ COFFIELD DEAL HOPES

The Western Bulldogs’ Pick 39 could be involved in a Nick Coffield trade with St Kilda, reports The Age.

The Saints earlier this week confirmed Coffield, who was drafted with Pick 8 in 2017, was keen to join the Bulldogs after two injury-interrupted seasons, with his most recent AFL game being in Round 23, 2021.

But the Saints are also locked in a free agency stand-off with Essendon over Jade Gresham, while they’re also keen to acquire Paddy Dow from Carlton and Liam Henry from Fremantle.

The Age reported Pick 39, which the Bulldogs acquired from Brisbane during last year’s trade period as part of the Josh Dunkley deal, could be involved in the deal that’d Coffield to Whitten Oval.

The Saints, according to the report, would like Pick 39 to be used in negotiations with Freo for Henry. But the Dockers have already placed a high price on top-10 draftee Henry, who had an excellent finish to his 2023 campaign.

A possible compensation pick from the AFL for losing restricted free agent Gresham to Essendon could also help the Saints unlock deals for Henry and/or Dow. But the Bombers still haven’t officially lodged an offer for Gresham, meaning the Saints haven’t decided whether to match the deal and, therefore, force a trade.

It’s expected the Saints would match the Bombers’ bid if Essendon’s offer didn’t trigger an end-of-first-round compensation pick.
