Players rejected for post series drink at the Oval

Australia’s cricketers were rejected by their English rivals for a post Ashes series drink at the Oval on Monday, foxsports.com.au can reveal.

England won the fifth Test to tie the series 2-2, but Australia stayed at the ground into the night, waiting for the chance to mingle, as is customary between the sides.

But a source close to the Australian cricket team revealed to foxsports.com.au that that chance never came with England knocking the players back.

One source said: “We don’t really care, we’ve got the urn, but after a hard-fought series it is pretty pathetic.

“Talk about the spirit of cricket.”

Australia retained te urn by securing a series draw, but England finished as the stronger of the two sides with wins at Headingley and the Oval.

Earlier in the series, England coach Brendon McCullum was left fuming after Alex Carey’s controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstor at Lord’s.

After the incident, he said: “I can’t imagine we’ll be having a beer with them any time soon.”
