“Preity Zinta Cooked Paranthas For Me”: Ex-England Star ‘Forever Thankful’ For PBKS Owner’s Gesture

The IPL is not just an assimilation of the best cricket talents around the world but it is melting pot of different strata of celebrities too. Over the years, the team owners are as much in focus as are the cricket stars. Preity Zinta is one such celebrity team owner of Punjab Kings. She has been a constant presence in the stadiums where Punjab Kings play. To support her team, co-owner Preity Zinta was present in the stands at the stadium in Mullanpur during a recent match of Punjab Kings with Delhi Capitals.

Former England cricketer Ravi Bopara, who has played for Punjab, shared an interesting anecdote on Preity Zinta.

“Those were the early days in the IPL, when it was a party, those were the great days,” said Bopara on FanCode’s IPL show ‘The Super Over.’

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta last year had said that she once had to make 120 aloo paranthas for her team during the 2009 IPL in South Africa, when the team was called Kings XI Punjab.

“Who would have thought Preity Zinta would make aloo paranthas for her team? I think they have stopped eating aloo parantha after that,” the anchor asked Preity on Star Sports. Harbhajan Singh, who was also standing there, started laughing.

“First time I realised, how much do you boys eat! We were in South Africa, and they did not serve good all paranthas at the hotel. Then I told them, ‘I will teach you all how to make aloo parantha’. Seeing that, the boys asked if I can make aloo paranthas for them too. I told them that, I will make aloo paranthas if they win the next match. They won it. Then I made 120 aloo paranthas for the team. After that I have stopped making aloo paranthas,” Preity replied with a smile.

On hearing that, Harbhajan Singh: “Irfan alone would have ate 20 aloo paranthas.”

“My first experience of IPL came in 2009 when it was payed in South Africa. My favourite moment apart from winning, and getting my highest score, was when Preity Zinta cooked parathas for me. She made them with her own hands. She said: “What do you want for breakfast?” I sai aloo parathas, and she said ‘No problem’. I am forever thankful for that gesture,” he added.

After wining against Delhi Capitals, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) fought their hearts out but went down by four wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. RCB restricted the Punjab Kings to 176/6 before chasing down their target in 19.2 overs.
However, Punjab Kings’ off-spinner Harpreet Brar shone on the night with magnificent bowling figures of 2/13. Speaking about his performance, Brar said as per the press release by PBKS, “I tried to dry up the runs as much as possible and I picked up two wickets in the process as well. I was trying to bowl as many dot balls as possible to create pressure on the batters. The dot balls give you wickets in the end.”With ANI inputs
