Timo Werner keen on permanent deal with Tottenham, RB Leipzig loan, contract details, Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is laying the foundations for sustainable success at Tottenham and it seems like new signing Timo Werner wants to be a part of it for the long-term.

That is according to Sky Sports transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, who reported on Wednesday that Werner “feels very comfortable” at Spurs and wants his loan to the club to be made into a permanent move.

It could only cost Tottenham around 17 million euros ($28M) too according to Plettenberg, although the Spurs have until the start of the European Championship on June 14 to make it happen with RB Leipzig.

Spurs can still strike a deal to sign Werner permanently beyond that date but risk rival clubs entering the picture, which in turn could drive up the forward’s asking price.

Plettenberg reported that if Tottenham does not permanently sign Werner he is still “very open” to leaving Leipzig in the summer.

Werner, who scored 23 goals in 89 games for Chelsea between 2020 and 2022, joined Tottenham on loan in January earlier this year.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano reported at the time that Werner was “very keen” on working with Postecoglou and that the Australian had “approved the deal”.

Postecoglou was full of praise for Werner earlier in the month after he scored his first goal since joining the club in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

“I think he’s been really important,” Postecoglou said.

“You can only imagine if we didn’t bring him in in January, it would have been a much bigger burden on the other players in the group. Particularly when Sonny was away as well. We threw him in straight away.

“And when you come in in January, especially for someone like Timo, standing as a mature player, he’s not a young player we’ve brought in to develop, we’re bringing him in to make an impact, and I think he has made an impact for us.”
