BLUES INCH CLOSER TO RETAINING SON OF A GUN

Carlton CEO Brian Cook has confirmed that the club is close to re-signing son of a gun Jack Silvagni on a new two – year deal.

Silvagni’s contract status and saga has been a point of intrigue all year as he has battled for a place in the Blues’ best mix.

Silvagni had hoped to put himself in a position of power with his versatility and ability to play all over the ground making him an enticing prospect to the Blues and other clubs in the market for a utility.

The emergence and re-signing of ruckman Tom De Koning, coupled with an untimely knee injury put a halt to Silvagni’s season just as he was working his way into form. Leaving his future further up in the air.

But speaking at a Carlton member function before Carlton’s breakthrough Elimination final win against Sydney on Friday night, Cook confirmed that Silvagni’s signature was imminent having tabled a two-year deal to the 25-year-old.

The deal would see Silvagni extend his tenure to ten years at Princes Park.

As their list of uncontracted players continues to dwindle, The Blues expect to re-sign all of Caleb Marchbank, David Cuningham and Lachie Fogarty who have all played key roles in Carlton’s surge to the semi – finals.

WANTAWAY DOCKER REPORTEDLY NOMINATES NEW HOME

Wantaway Docker Liam Henry has reportedly nominated St Kilda as his club of choice to be traded to, according to AFL Media‘s Callum Twomey.

Henry, who‘s out of contract, had already handed in his trade request to Fremantle, with the club expressing “disappointment” over his looming departure.

Hawthorn was seen as the frontrunner for Henry, but he now appears bound for Moorabbin as the Dockers and Saints will look to broker a trade.

St Kilda currently holds picks 13, 32 and 51 in the draft.

Henry joined Fremantle with the No. 9 pick in the 2019 draft after the club was forced to match a bid by then Blues list boss Stephen Silvagni, who‘s now in the same role at the Saints.

DOGS EMERGE AS LEADERS FOR PRIZED SUNS PICK

The Western Bulldogs have emerged as a leading contender for the Gold Coast Sun’s prized pick 4 at the national draft according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

The Suns are set to welcome a bounty of academy selections – Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Jake Rogers who are set to fall in the top handful of draft selections.

It is believed that the Dogs, who currently hold two first round selections – currently picks 10 and 17 – will look to trade up to take the Suns pick 4, giving the Suns a windfall of draft selection points to match bids on their academy talent.

Melbourne has also emerged as another option to trade up to get the Suns early pick.

The Demons could offer up their first pick – Currently pick five (originally held by Fremantle) and their two second round selections that could net the Suns an extra 500 points on the Draft value index.
