8AM — TWO CLUBS, TWO PLAYERS, ONE ‘TRADE BATTLE’ FOR ONE PICK

Two clubs are set for a “trade battle” over a prized second-round pick, reports AFL Media.

Collingwood and Melbourne are looking to strike deals with Sydney for midfielder Taylor Adams and ruck Brodie Grundy respectively.

AFL Media reported the Pies and Demons were both set to push for Pick 25, which Sydney acquired from Hawthorn during last year’s draft after the Hawks moved up the order to select Josh Weddle in the first round.

The pick has fallen four spots due to two free agency compensation picks handed to North Melbourne (Pick 3) and Adelaide (Pick 20) for losing Ben McKay and Tom Doedee to rivals, while the Kangaroos have also been handed Pick 21 (2023 AFL assistance package) and Port Adelaide holds Pick 24 (2022 North Melbourne assistance package on-traded).

Collingwood is hopeful of landing Pick 25 from Sydney for Adams, who’s keen to play more midfield time after spending most of the 2023 season out of the centre square. The Pies could then include Pick 25 in a trade with Fremanle for Lachie Schultz — or, by acquiring the pick from the Swans, they could be happier to give up their first selection (Pick 19).

The Demons reportedly knocked back a “far too modest” offer for Grundy. 7 News Melbourne reported the Swans offered Pick 46 in exchange for the dual All-Australian, while The Age reported Sydney’s offer was “shut down emphatically” on Tuesday.

The Swans also hold Pick 33.

7.30AM — DONS TO ‘GET MOVING’ ON FREE AGENT

What can we expect on day three of the trade period?

“Now they can get moving on Jade Gresham, the Essendon Football Club, now they’ve got Ben McKay Esava Ratugolea as well, watch out for that one,” foxfooty.com.au’s David Zita told Trading Day.

6AM — MAGPIES’ BIG EARLY DOCKER OFFER AS FREO LAUNCH LATE PLAY TO PINCH HAWK

Collingwood has put its first-round pick on the table as negotiations begin over wantaway Fremantle forward Lachie Schultz, reports the Herald Sun.

The Magpies are willing to deal their No.19 selection in exchange for the contracted Docker, after offering him a four-year deal with a trigger to the fifth.

Schultz is seeking a move back to Victoria for strong family reasons, and would become an unrestricted free agent after 2024 if he remains in the west to see out his Fremantle contract.

The Dockers could receive a similar bounty as free agency compensation if they hold him to his deal meaning they will drive a harder bargain than just pick 19.

Collingwood is expected to land one of Sydney’s Picks 25 or 33 in a deal for Taylor Adams, adding to their hand of options.

The Herald Sun also reported Fremantle is trying to pinch Tyler Brockman from under West Coast’s noses.

The Hawthorn forward has asked for a trade back to WA and wants to play for the Eagles, but the Hawks are said to be willing to trade him to the Dockers if that means a better return.

Already in negotiations with West Coast the Hawks had reportedly tried to get Brockman involved in a swap of their Pick 4 for the Eagles’ Pick 1.
