Despite not being with the Indian team for the Test series against England, Ishan Kishan is one of those players who has constantly made headlines over the last couple of weeks. The wicket-keeper batter remains out of cricketing action despite the directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and India head coach Rahul Dravid to start playing domestic cricket. As critics question Ishan’s decision to stick to training over playing for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy, a report has explained the possible reason behind the player’s mindset.

As per a report in Indian Express, Ishan Kishan was shattered by India’s defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. He wanted a break immediately but couldn’t get it. It was during the tour of South Africa that the player finally was able to distance himself from cricketing responsibilities and give himself time and space to rejuvenate.

“He had never complained about it but the ODI World Cup final loss in Ahmedabad, like the billions in our country, has left him shattered. He wanted the break right after the tournament but was asked by the management to play and he did it without asking any questions. He tried to push his body and brain but mental fatigue caught up with him and it was only then that he requested a break,” the report quoted a source as saying.

When it comes to Ishan’s Ranji Trophy absence, the report claimed that the wicket-keeper batter loves the tournament but isn’t planning to make a cricketing comeback so soon.

“Ishan has always given priority to the Ranji Trophy. In the 2022-23 season, he was constantly travelling with the Indian cricket team but despite the hectic schedule he played a couple of Ranji Trophy games, and scored a century against Kerala, which helped him earn a place in India’s Test team. All these accusations are just rubbish.”

The report further claimed that Kishan is expected to make his return to competitive cricket in the DY Patil T20 tournament, for which he will also seek an NOC from the BCCI.

“He will ask for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board. He will be playing for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He wants to earn his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad with a good outing in the IPL. It is a long road but the hunger to play cricket is back and he wants to play in all three formats,” said a source.
